It's not inconceivable to think that someone might genuinely prefer the earlier version. You're basically saying that there's absolutely no reason for anybody to play any counter-strike other than CS:GO, because all the actual reasons someone might prefer the earlier ones are just "updates to an antiquated game?" Is it impossible that CS:GO not be the superior game in every aspect?īasically, is it possible that it's not just that the CS community is highly resistant to change, but rather that it is a group of diverse people who view different changes as either being good or bad? The way you describe it, the only reason somewhat might stay playing 1.4 or 1.5 is because they're anal about a minor tweak, when in reality different versions of the game (and different games in the series) actually can play very differently. I usually don't comment but this is just such an annoying comment I feel compelled to. TL DR: The boycott is stupid for most purposes (barring professional players), and the hate is unfounded simply because the community's attitude towards new things has always been a sack of shit. If you're not a professional player and you're still sticking to 1.6 like it's something special in today's gaming world, you're just nostalgic. All of the "good reasons" to avoid CS:GO (as told by the 1.6 camp) have to do mainly with game mechanics that are more or less an update to a highly antiquated game-I mean, given that CS is well over a decade old by now, it's definitely due for an overhaul, and GO is definitely that refreshing new look and feel. So much, in fact, that you'll still find people in the CS1.4 and 1.5 camps trying to avoid 1.6 like the plague, because for some reason, the minute something is tweaked or rebalanced or a cool new feature is added, it's immediately crucified by the majority of players. Not a professional or major 1.6 player, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but here's the way it seems: the Counter-Strike community at large has always been highly, highly resistant towards change.
